The Detroit Red Wings 17th season culminated with their 3rd Stanley Cup victory! Finishing the season with 25 wins, 14 losses, and 11 ties. This team was captained by all-time great, Sid Abel. This snapshot captures the team after winning the cup and is autographed by Abel as well as teammates Carl Liscombe, Les Douglas, Harry Watson, and stickboy, Wally Crossman.
Crossman, although not known to everyone, was part of the Red Wings team for many years, with a role starting in the 1930s, where he would hang around the locker room after games, through the 2000-2001 season. Wally was with the Red Wings through 61 consecutive seasons, getting the locker room ready and handling sticks for 9 Stanley Cup wins. In 2003, Wally passed away at age 92.
