Draper played 17 of his 20 NHL seasons with the Detroit Red Wings where he won four Stanley Cups (1997, 1998, 2002, and 2008). In 2004, Draper won the Frank J. Selke Trophy for Best Defensive Forward. He was a member of the fan-favorite "Grind Line" with Kirk Maltby and Darren McCarty or Joey Kocur.
